Why Join Evesham Chess Club?

Joining Evesham Chess Club is a great way to improve your chess, meet new people and enjoy regular games in a friendly and supportive environment.

Members can play against a wide range of opponents, learn from more experienced players, take part in social chess, tournaments and team matches, and make use of the Club’s sets, clocks and other resources. We also aim to encourage junior players and help everyone, from beginners to experienced competitors, continue developing their game.

Full Membership

Full Membership is recommended for regular players and anyone who would like to take part fully in the Club.

Adult Full Membership — £60 per season

Junior Full Membership — £30 per season

Junior membership applies to players aged under 18 on 1 September.

Full Members receive:

free attendance at regular club sessions throughout the season
eligibility to represent Evesham Chess Club in league and external competitions
entry to Club trophy competitions
access to internal ECF-rated games
voting rights at the Club’s AGM
eligibility to stand for a Club committee role

The membership season runs from 1 September to 31 August.

Members joining later in the season may be offered a reduced pro-rata membership fee, calculated by the Club Treasurer.

Social Membership (Pay As You Go)

Social Membership is available for players who would prefer to attend occasionally without paying an annual membership fee.

£3 per session

Payment should normally be made in cash at the beginning of the session. Correct change is appreciated.

Social Members can:

attend regular social chess sessions
play friendly games against other Club players
take part in selected non-trophy internal events at the discretion of the Tournament Controller

Social Membership does not include voting rights, Club trophy competitions or eligibility to represent the Club in league matches.

Try Your First Session Free

New visitors are welcome to attend one Club session completely free of charge.

There is no requirement to choose a membership option before attending. Come along, meet our players and enjoy an evening of chess.

ECF Membership Requirements

Players wishing to participate in ECF‑rated games or represent the Club in league competitions must hold at least ECF Bronze Membership.

ECF Membership is:

separate from Club membership
paid directly to the English Chess Federation
required for rated league, club and county games
